Introduction of e-Governance is the key to making information technology (IT) relevant to ordinary citizens. E-Governance is a culture, which changes how citizens relate to governments as much as it changes how citizens relate to each other. It brings forth re-definition of needs and responsibilities. Though computerization introduced successfully by NIC in different sectors in the districts has yielded fruitful results, the concept of introducing e-Governance to implement citizen-IT based applications in the district is the next logical goal.

In continuation e-Governance programme NATIONAL INFORMATICS CENTRE had been established way back in 1988 in DC Office complex. NIC a leading government department under the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology is involved in various e-Governance projects implementation. Following is the list of important projects implemented in the district:

SUWIDHA Center

The SUWIDHA Center opened in the DC office complex, which provides single window facility for various public services. This center helps in speeding up the work in different branches of DC office & other departments and regular monitoring. At present following services are provided :

1. Arms License Monitoring System : The Arm License Monitoring System software has implemented and long pending grievances of licence holders is over now.

2. Driving licence Issuance and Registration of Vehicle: Learner Driving license, Permanent Driving License, RCs of Vehicles has been started successfully in Ferozepur using SARATHI and VAHAN s/w provided by NIC.

(Bus passes to freedom fighter & Handicap persons etc.)

5. HRC branch
Following services are provided to general public
a) Stamp vendor license
b) Counter signature on certificates

6. Affidavits' attestation

7. WEBPASS: This package is successfully running in Ferozepur district of Punjab, we are providing support to in data entry, data transmission and taking daily back up of data. Applicant who apply for a passport can check his status on passport office web site.

8. Birth & Death Registration and certificate issuance:

SUWIDHA Building: The construction of building for SUWIDHA center is going on and likely completed very shortly. The SUWIDHA center is running with the help of society named FITES(Ferozepur Information Technology and Education Society) which is financially self dependant and genrating funds to promote E-goverance by making more and more branches SUWIDHA center in a phased manner.

District Treasury Office Project: In continuation of E-governance programme of Punjab Government treasury software is running successfully in the District Treasury which is linked with the Treasury web site to check online account head wise reports for various purposes. Further it is going to be implemented in District Sub treasuries.

Village Directory for Planning Department of Punjab Government: The village directory for Planning board department is made and is available with all kind of data related to village.

PRISM (Punjab Registration Information System Module): Punjab Registration Information System is running in all the Sub-Registrar & Joint Sub-Registrar Offices of district Ferozepur

Social Security Information System: The new hardware and software has been installed around 65000 pensioners are coming under the Ferozepur District and are managing with the help of the software provided by NIC.

Election Process: Parliamentary election, MC elections, Panchayat Election, Block samti & Zilaparishad elections IT is used which help to speed up the pre and post election work with transparency in work.

Computer Training programmes for government employees: In continuation of e-governance programme, the continuous training have been given to DC office staff in batches with coordination of IT Department.

DC Office Branches: The computer has been provide in different branches of DC office for DAK monitoring System, Reference monitoring system, General Provident Fund work, Payroll and daily routine work.

District Rural Development Department: Rural Soft for online updation of data regarding various development schemes going on/ completed in the district.

Video Conferencing facility: A very state of art Video Conferencing room has been established.

Agriculture Produce MIS & AGMARKNET Portal: The package is used to accept daily rates of fruits, vegetables and data uploaded at http://agmarknet.nic.in site from various market committees of district Ferozepur.

Agriculture Development Office: Weekly data transmission food grains rates.

BPL (Below Poverty Line): Digitized data of all the BPL families of the district.

NCERT 7th AISES Survey: Digitized the data of all the schools of the distt.
